At ASSA ABLOY, we aim to grow through customer relevance, and sustainability is top of mind for customers. They want solutions that help them behave sustainably and that are made in a sustainable way. Here’s how sustainability helps us grow.
“Sustainability is clearly a driver for growth,” says Zeljka Svensson, Director Global Innovation Management. “We see an increasing demand from customers. Different studies say that 70% of consumers search for green products, and about 50% of all new commercial constructions are built to green standards. And more and more of our customers are committing to science-based targets that provides clear pathways for companies to reduce greenhouse gas". These targets are aimed at meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement and considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with the latest climate science.
The science based target initiative is supported by our top 250 customers and together we are working towards more sustainable operations.
We have the products. Our 325 verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD's) guide our customers in making sustainable decisions. These EPD's gives us clear advantage over competitors and this edge is an important differentiator when winning projects.
And we have the know-how to help customers. An example is the building industry where there are many different green building standards and certification programs, such as Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) and BREEAM (the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). Doors and hardware can be challenging for customers, and even more so once sustainability is added in. We make it easy for them.
Zeljka Svensson, Director Global Innovation Management, adds, “We have knowledge, and we can support our customers in guiding them in how to reach green building standards and making sure we have products that contribute to their certifications.”
