Financial Controller: Sub-Sahara Africa

Purpose of the role:

 

Responsible for ensuring that the financial reporting function in Sub-Sahara Africa are managed in a professional and timely manner and to ensure that the required processes, technology systems and internal controls are adequate and effectively implemented. To provide adequate support the local country Sub-Sahara Financial Controllers to ensure compliance to the ASSA ABLOY Group Accounting and Reporting Manual and Group Policies and Procedures. The jobholder will also play a key role in supporting the VP: ASSA ABLOY Sub-Sahara Africa (member of the Africa Exco team) to grow the business.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • To ensure correct financial management, including financial analysis, planning, cash management, treasury management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Take overall responsibility to ensure accounting performed in the local entities of ASSA ABLOY Sub-Sahara Africa complies with the ASSA ABLOY Group Accounting and Reporting Manual.
  • Supervision of all the ASSA ABLOY Sub-Sahara African legal entities’ fiscal close and all statutory requirements forthcoming as locally performed.
  • Develop, implement and monitor the internal control environment as stipulated by the Group Internal Control and Risk matrix including appropriate management of the administrative, financial, and fiscal issues.
  • Ensure compliance to all policies stated by Group (Trade Compliance, Business Representatives, Data Protection etc.).
  • To develop quarterly forecasts, budgets and long-term business plans.
  • Supervision of auditing, finance, and the internal control environment to ensure local statutory and Group compliance.
  • To provide periodic reports as required by EMEAI and the ASSA ABLOY Africa Exco.
  • To analyse product margins, perform special reports and analysis to provide consultative support to new business initiatives in conjunction with the local management teams.
  • The individual will also play and instrumental role to enhance the IT technology landscape including ERP, Business Intelligence and other reporting toolsets.
  • Management of the Accounts Payable and Receivable functions with the support of the local teams.
  • Ensure that all the ASSA ABLOY Sub-Saharan Africa legal entities adhere to all monthly statutory requirements.
  • As a key member of ASSA ABLOY Sub-Saharan African business drive performance improvement in all areas of the business through effective communication and leadership and support to the VP: ASSA ABLOY Sub-Sahara Africa.
  • Provide continuous technical support to local financial controllers in Sub-Sahara Africa.

 

Essential Qualifications

 

  • B-Compt (Hons) with articles. CA (SA) will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years post articles experience in the commercial and manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of IFRS.

 

Experience & Competencies:

 

  • Experience in ERP, IT, Business and Reporting Tools essential (Hyperion, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Office etc.).
  • Very strong analytical & conceptual skills and able to drive improved performance in the finance team.
  • Experience in preparation and drafting of annual tax calculations and financial statements.
  • Good team player who understands the importance of meeting deadlines
  • Thrives in a busy, challenging environment
  • An excellent communicator who can explain sometimes complicated financial concepts to business leaders across the Region
  • Ability to understand broader business issues.
